Group Rules

Safe Space & Brave Space

Our community is committed to centering the safety and inclusion of those who face layers of oppression and have been historically excluded. We aim to create a space where marginalized voices are uplifted, respected, and protected. This requires us to prioritize safe spaces for those most impacted by oppression while cultivating a brave space for those of us with privileged identities. Bravery means being open to discomfort, accountability, and growth as we work to challenge internalized biases and ensure that everyone feels genuinely included. Safety means ensuring that our words and actions do not perpetuate harm. Together, we foster a community where all of us can thrive.

No anti Queer/LGBTQ+ views allowed

This is a safe and secure space for queer Black women, femmes, and nonbinary people. This group recognizes that queer Black people face heightened discrimination and predjudice on top of racism. In order to keep this as a safe space we will not allow any anti queer/LGBTQ+ views.

No colorism allowed

Colorism is the prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group. In this group we recognize that people with a darker skin tone face heightened discrimination and predjudice. For this reason, and in order to keep this a safe space for those with darker skin tones, any views that promote colorism will not be allowed.

No ableism allowed

Ableism is a set of beliefs or practices that devalue and discriminate against people with physical, intellectual, or psychiatric disabilities and often rests on the assumption that disabled people need to be ‘fixed’ in one form or the other. This group recognizes that people with disabilities face heightend predjudice and discrimination on top of racism. In order to keep this as a safe space for people with disabilities, we will not allow any ableist views to be shared.

No classism allowed

Classism is a belief that a person's social or economic station in society determines their value in that society. This group recognizes that people from so called lower social or economic classes face heightened discrimination and predjudice on top of racism. In order to keep this as a safe place for those we will not allow any views that promote classism.

No Gaslighting

If someone shares their perspective or experience it is inappropriate to respond with anything similar to "that doesn't happen to me" or "that's wrong" or "I don't agree" unless they indicate they are open to counter points. If it doesn't apply scroll on by or, better yet, offer support. This includes but isn't limited to experiences involving racism from non Black ppl, anti Blackness at the hands of Black ppl , and having your Blackness questioned by other Black people.

Promotions

Starting Saturday, Nov 4th 2023, we will be moving promotions, ads, and marketing from group mbrs to Saturdays. The BWINHSC business page will make a post each Saturday encouraging people who want to promote something to do so in the comments. We ask for a $10 suggested donation in return which is payable through https://givebutter.com/bwinhinc. Any promotional posts made outside of Saturday will be removed. This does not apply to the BWINH Collective when we promote our own events.

Fundraising

No fundraising or asking for donations in our group unless pre-approved by an admin. The person or cause must be in support of Black women, femmes or nonbinary people.
