Community Building Rooted in Culture, Care & Solidarity

What began in 2020 as the Black Womxn in New Hampshire Social Club has grown into a broader movement focused on building connection, culture, mutual aid, and collective power for Black people across New Hampshire and nearby communities.

At a time when many of us were feeling isolated, disconnected from culture, and navigating predominantly white spaces with little community around us, we started creating the kinds of spaces we wished existed. Spaces where Black people could gather, laugh, rest, learn, celebrate, organize, and build meaningful relationships with one another.

Today, that work continues through the BWINH Collective.

The Black Womxn in New Hampshire Social Club was founded to address a reality many Black people in New Hampshire know well: isolation.

Many of us came from places where Black culture, community gathering spaces, and everyday connection with other Black people were woven into daily life. Moving to or growing up in New Hampshire often meant losing access to those experiences.

What started as a social club for Black women, femmes, and nonbinary people quickly revealed a larger need for intentional Black community spaces rooted in culture, healing, solidarity, and collective care.

Over time, the work expanded into broader community organizing efforts that now include mutual aid, coalition building, cultural programming, education initiatives, wellness spaces, and community-centered advocacy.

Building More Than Events

For us, community building is not simply hosting events.

It is creating opportunities for Black people to find each other, build trust, reconnect with culture, share resources, learn together, support one another through difficult times, and imagine new possibilities for our communities.

It is about helping build the foundation for a stronger Black ecosystem in New Hampshire rooted in reciprocity, visibility, collective care, and long-term relationship building.
